BELFAST

We spent Christmas 2008 with friends in Northern Ireland, and took the opportunity to see something of this city, and also the countryside of Northern Ireland, and enjoyed these 2 environments very much. Driving past the City Cemetery, on the Falls Road in Belfast planted an image in my brain that I had to go back to take, as from the gates, the land rises slightly then falls away, leaving the crosses and memorials above the sky line. I have merged this with a picture taken a few miles away, looking south towards the Mountains of Mourne. The gantry cranes are Samson and Goliath, the most visible aspects of the Harland and Woolf Dockyard, which dominate many views and vistas of the city.

The Wheel is next to City Hall, and fair dominates the skyline in the centre of Belfast.
