This lovely butterfly of high summer is one of our most elusive, with the males spending much of their time in the canopy of the "master" ash trees, adjacent to the blackthorn stands where the females lay their eggs. These pictures are all of females in Worcestershire, taken in August, and in the bottom picture she is in the process of laying an egg.
