Dark Green Fritillary

Our most widespread large fritillary, the Dark Green can be found from the Scottish Islands to the tip of Cornwall, and around much of the coast of the whole of Ireland. It is more common the further west you go on the UK mainland, and these photographs were taken towards the north end of the live firing range on Salisbury Plain. I should point out that the army weren't firing anything there that day!
