These
wonderful animals are found in the Moray Firth outside Inverness in
Scotland. The picture above is one of the more readily achieved shots, as
the dolphins come to the surface and roll their bodies as they submerge
again. My first ever views, in May 2007.
After
quite a wait I managed to catch a head shot, -03 below. On a grey and
showery day, with changing light, and shortly after the tide had turned, I
caught the dolphin in pictures 04 / 05 / 06 playing with a salmon before
presumably eating it, culminating in the shot where the dolphin "spat" the
dolphin out.
Shortly
afterwards, a dolphin leapt completely clear of the water. A great view, but
not one of the photographers on the beach got the picture....we were all too
busy marvelling at the sight.
If you
want to see them, the place to go is Chanonery Point, on the north bank of
the Firth, by the lighthouse. Shortly after I took the pictures, the rain
came in again and gave us all a good soaking.
