The Fly orchid is easily overlooked, despite its size. Where it grows in longish grass amongst other vegetation it can be quite hard to see until you get your eye in. Really a plant of the limestone hills, these were growing in an open situation in the Chilterns, alongside Military orchid.
Fly Orchid hybridises with Bee Orchid very rarely, but a good stand of these hybrids can be found on the north side of the A303 near Wincanton, and the pictures can be seen here.
