Widespread in the west of Britain, you may encounter Lesser butterfly orchids from the North of Scotland down to Cornwall. Plants which grow in woods tend to be quite slender, whilst those, like these, which grow on hillsides are much stockier. Look for it from mid-May to July. These updated pictures were taken in May 2007 at Strawberry Banks Nature Reserve in Gloucestershire.
