This elusive, predominantly nocturnal animal has its stronhold in the highlands of Scotland, and the lodge we stayed in in early May 2007 is in the middle of a number of territories, and this female came to the owners bird-table on the first night we were there, but then hardly showed for the rest of our stay.

One hears stories of the preferred bait, I thought peanut butter, another jam and a third said honey. In reality, she seemed to prefer the food on the bird-table to anything else that was put out.
