This is one of our commonest and most widely distributed orchids. It has a wide range of habitats, from open grassland in downs, meadows and roadside verges, through limestone pavement and dune slack to scrub, hedgerow and deciduous woodland. flowering from late April in the south through to August in the north, it occurs almost anywhere in England, Wales, the Central lowlands of Scotland and a considerable amount of the more northern and western areas of Ireland.
