This delicate butterfly flutters weakly around the rides of fewer of our woods than it used to. Still found locally in the Forest of Dean, this courting couple were first brood, in May 2005, at Haugh Wood in Herefordshire.

Also taken at Haugh Wood in May 2008, these two butterflies were at differing stages, that in -02 was searching for a mate, and barely settled, whilst the insect in -03 had recently emerged and was busy drying its wings, providing an excellent photo opportunity.
